Angler at the lower end of Sylvan Dale’s private “Big Thompson River” property!
Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch will again host Boulder Flycasters for a day of Fly Fishing all waters including about 3/4 mile of the Big Thompson River on the main property and the five or so lakes in the valley.
If you recall last year, we had a great turnout of BFC anglers who had a field day hooking and landing some really nice fish up to 26″ in the valley lakes. Everyone caught numerous fish. The day was sunny and warm and the fishing was hot the entire day.
The stream was raging and we were relegated to the lakes in the valley. But this year, with run-off a few weeks away, the river fishing should be better than ever
You can bring your personal float craft and have access to both Mother and Island Lakes for float fishing.
Here’s Mark tying on a nymph as he’s waiting for the BBQ
Our BFC president, Mark Riley, was missing last year but will return this spring to fish his favorite stream runs. As you can see by his expression, he was having some great fun waiting for the BBQ that was being prepared at the dining hall behind him a two years ago!
As usual, we’ll meet at 8:00 a.m. for a coffee and snacks and split up for the morning fishing session. Shown in the picture below, the BBQ lunch was a hit for all it was all we could do to push ourselves away from the table.
Last year’s BBQ was a great spread!
We’ll meet back at the dining hall shortly after noon for a BBQ Buffet that will have you buzzing with “compliments to the chef”!! One things for sure you’ll never leave one of their lunches still hungry!!
Can’t help but fill your plate …
maybe a nap before heading out after lunch!
We have all their waters to ourselves for the entire day and can fish until dusk. Midge fishing begins in earnest after 3:00 p.m. on the lakes and having a personal float boat of some kind gets you close to the fish!
Bob Bush with his 26″ Rainbow caught on a size 26 hanging midge!
See below for cost per angler for meals and fly fishing for the entire day.
