February Chapter Meeting
February 6 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Our next chapter meeting is coming up! Monday, February 6th at 6:30pm at Upslope Brewing.
Todd Grischke of the Michigan DNR will join us to discuss his teams efforts and success reintroducing Grayling in the state of Michigan.
Arctic Grayling are native to Michigan, but extirpated from the state around 1930. Several reintroduction attempts since that time have failed to produce self-sustaining populations. Michigan’s Arctic Grayling Initiative (MAGI) was officially announced in fall 2016 with a foundational partnership between the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians. The partnership has grown to more than 40 organizations and agencies, with the goal of reintroducing Arctic Grayling to native streams in northern Michigan resulting in self-sustaining populations. We developed a strategic plan in 2017 and established four focus areas: research, fish production, management, and outreach.
