Rogers Park Restoration Committee Meeting Minutes

May 18th, 2006

* Meeting was held at Dave Blauch’s office in Boulder.
* The team viewed the video that the Evergreen TU chapter produced of the Bear Creek restoration project.
* Dave walked the team through a series of slides on the restoration process and discussed considerations for various improvements.
* Discussion around needing to secure both permission and support from city and county of Boulder as land owners and interested parties.
* Idea was floated to possibly trade site naming for significant corporate sponsorship.
* Idea was raised to approach youth groups such as the Boy Scouts and the Boulder Youth Corp as manpower (with younger backs than ours) donating allies.
* There was quite a bit of discussion about whether enough consideration had gone into determining that Rogers Park was the best specific site the chapter could have selected for committing our resources. I believe this decision was determined to be one for the chapter’s board and not this committee. I expect board members on this committee will fill the rest of us in re: this decision at our next meeting.
* Ron Steward, ex County Commissioner was discussed as another good advisor and ally. Roger was to contact him to discuss the project.
* There was extensive discussion on to best approach the town to make them an enthusiastic ally by positioning this project as very complimentary to the alluvial fan restoration that they have publicly committed to. The Rogers Park project could be positioned by the individuals at the city responsible for this fix as proof that the area was brought back to a better condition than it was in prior to the pipeline leak.
* Roger and Al are going to meet with Christina Martinez, Boulder’s Flood Plains and Wetlands Administrator to open up this discussion.
* Another potential interested party and ally that was mentioned was Donna Scott, the city’s Stormwater coordinator.
* Roger was also going to speak to Larry Quilling about his thoughts on the project.
* Dave agreed to distribute the PowerPoint presentation to the group.
* Next meeting is targeted for the week of 6/13.
