May 2nd General Meeting . . . John Wolfe and his ventures into our High Lakes
John Wolfe . . . Local Guide will be "Leading You" to some of his favorite spots close by in an unusual preview of what's available to us right here in our back yards. High Lakes fishing along the front range. From Day Hikes to week long expeditions, John is a wealth of information with regard to our mountain lakes, above Boulder! John has been guiding along the Front Range for many years and spends many a summer's day hiking into the back country, alone and with clients.
High Lakes can be very temperamental and very puzzling for some and he'll get you started thinking of a few new ways of angling at altitude. Come prepared to take notes and enjoy his thoughtful travel log, along our Continental Divide Peaks. High Lake fishing is far different than angling in the reservoirs and low level lakes we find near Boulder!
John's Bio:
John Wolfe has been tying his own flies and fly fishing for over 40 years, the last twelve around the Front Range and Rocky Mountain National Park. He’s been a fly-fishing guide for Front Range Anglers, going on his sixth year. John has fished most of the well known rivers in Northern California, Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana, and has extensive experience fishing the high mountain lakes in both RMNP and the Front Range.
John’s presentation will be on Fly-Fishing the Front Range High Mountain Lakes, and will include where to go, what gear to bring, what tactics to use, as well as why you should fish them (if you aren’t already!).
Don't miss this chance at finding out how to be successful high above Boulder!

President's Pool ~ Not Enough Time . . . Too Much Trouble
Paul brings to our attention, an article in the New York Times this past March explaining the decline in angling in the United States and what that means, not only for us, but for the Youth of America.
Please read Paul's interpretation of what the article means to us and what we could be doing at the grass roots level to curb this problem!

| Adam Armold, Conservation Editor . . . Emerging Life
Emerging Life, after a long, cold winter is always a special treat and one that is always fascinating and wonderous. The spring time in Colorado takes on a special meaning after the brutial snow season just past. We need the moisture and snow pack, but couldn't it have come in a more often schedule and at a lower volume with each storm?
Adam has a message regarding our wonderful season we're fast entering! Read his complete article by clicking below!

Five more spots available for our fall BFC trip to the Clarks Fork River near Missoula
That's Right! We have five spots available for our trip to a beautiful lodge overlooking the Clarks Fork River. We have room for 10 anglers and we have only five anglers so far! The price is about $50.00 per day, if full! The dates are arriving October 14th and departing on the 17th.
This trip is all on your own. You can schedule guides or fish on your own. Make it exactly what you want. Paul Prentiss and I will be there to assist you but won't be guiding you. There are any number of great waters to fish and you're limited only by your imagination. The Bitterroot, Rock Creek, the Blackfoot, the Big Hole, the Beaverhead are but a few of the waters close by!
Don't past up a chance like this. Granted, it's a crap shoot as to the weather, but we're assured that we'll get all deposits back if we cannot fly into Missoula. Yes, you must find your own way to Missoula. There are a number of airlines servicing Missoula and it's about a 10-12 hour drive there, allowing you to take more gear or your drift boat!
Deposits are due by May 15th so act right away for this bargain!
Contact Paul or me at either: peprentiss@earthlink.net or me at: bdbush@comcast.net

| John Dowd to lead high lakes angling adventures for BFC'ers

BFC member John Dowd invites others to join him this summer on day-hikes for some fabulous fly fishing in high lakes and streams in Rocky Mountain National Park and in the Indian Peaks Wilderness. Given the distance and/or elevation gains involved, reasonable conditioning is required for several of these hikes. Also needed for some is a backpack with a capacity of about 3,500 cubic inches to carry wading and fishing gear along with water, lunch and the “10 Essentials.” These trips are C&R, barbless, and, because the waters are small, will be limited to about 4 rods. For details and to reserve a spot, call John Dowd at 303-442-2477

| Membership Survey Summary Report
As you all recall, Boulder Flycasters sent out an electronic survey back in February to all of its members listed on the roster of names contained in the Chapter email address file. . All of these individuals received the electronic survey. Our email software allows us to record the number of emailed surveys that were opened by the survey recipients for comparison to the number of survey replies returned. We received a total of 68 survey responses that equates to a 30% return rate. The purpose of the survey was to obtain some basic information about the Chapter membership in order to provide the Board of Directors with some member input for future planning of Chapter events, programs, and projects.
Since the completion of the survey in early February, the Board of Directors has assigned a committee of members the task of reviewing the survey responses for the purpose of developing a report of action items and recommendations that the Board will use in future Chapter planning efforts. This committee has now completed its task and has submitted its report to the Board at the April 25 meeting. The Board is now analyzing the report, prioritizing the action items, and developing a future implementation agenda. Here is the membership Survey Summary. Please click below for all the details!

| Announcement from Bill Marx ~ La Garita Club Ranch Holiday

We are running out of time for Bill's kind offer to host a trip to La Garita Club Ranch, contact Bill immediately for all the details.
I have arranged an opportunity for couples from Boulder Flycasters to enjoy a special holiday at La Garita Club Ranch, September 16-20, 2007, hosted by my wife, Sarah & me, Boulder Flycasters & La Garita Club members. La Garita Club, the Phipps Family ranch, remains a private, by invitation only, guest ranch and fishing club, limited to members and their guests. In addition to a wonderful and romantic holiday this trip will provide an opportunity for some BFC spouses to get acquainted. Previously, Paul Prentiss & Bob Bush joined me for a few days at the ranch and they can attest to its beauty and fishing quality. The trip is limited to only 8 couples. First come, first served!
The La Garita Club, located in south central Colorado near Creede, is a unique private club offering great family vacations and western ranch life experience. Superior fly fishing on Bellows Creek and the Rio Grande River, horseback riding, hiking and mountain biking are among the many activities available at historic La Garita Ranch’s 2500 acres of unspoiled mountain beauty.

Fly of the Month . . . Bright Green Beatle
Bright Green Beatle!
Recipe:
Hook: Tiemco 101 or any other standard fly hook - Size 12 to 18
Thread: Black 6/0
Body: Mylar Coated Foam - Chartreuse or bright green
Dubbing: Ice Dub - Chartreuse
Legs: Black Krystal Flash
Tying Instructions:
1. Wrap black 6/0 thread from eye back to bend of hook.
2. Tie in foam that is the width of hook gap. Use mylar coated foam and trim the tie in end in a "V" to reduce bulk.
3. Dub ice dub on thread and wrap to two eye widths from behind eye.
4. Pull foam forward and tie in behind the eye two eye widths from eye.
5. Use black krystal flash for legs. Tie in two strands on each side of hook and trim to size. Whip finish.
6. Trim off protruding foam above eye to form a head and complete with head cement.
Fishing Suggestions:
Fish this pattern as a search pattern on either streams or lakes. Size 14 can be used as a strike indicator! Green color is especially good in Rocky Mountain National Park. When no hatch is present, it's a good pattern to begin with. Fish close to banks and vegetation. Grab this pattern when the wind is blowing bugs into the water. Very durable and floats well. Have a couple of these with you at all times . . . it just may save the day!
