March 7th Annual Boulder Flycasters Auction!

ImageThat's Right . . . It's time for the annual BFC Auction. It's a great event for family and friends plus it's FREE Admission! Remember all the fun we had last year.

Our 2007 Auction will be held on Wednesday, March 7th at the Spice of Life Events Center, 5706 Arapahoe Avenue in Boulder. Doors will open at 4:00 PM. The Silent Auction starts at 6:00 PM and the Verbal Auction begins at 7:30 PM. The Public is invited! In the meantime, we are again having the on-line option of bidding on our web site at boulderflycasters.org (for a link to our site, click below). There are lots of great items, both fly fishing related and general interest. Look at all the verbal and silent auction items listed elsewhere in this newsletter, you'll be glad you did!

Naturally you will be looking for bargains, but remember that 90% of the Chapter funding comes from this activity and the proceeds are invested in BFC projects. Such projects include the quarterly clean-up of Boulder Creek, our flagship project in the upper Boulder Creek drainage and the work that we're doing in South Boulder Creek! We also sponsor one of our local youth with a scholarship to attend Colorado Trout Unlimited Summer Youth Camp each summer. In addition to these worthy programs we help support CTU, our state level TU organization with their conservation projects and Reel Recovery (for Cancer Patients who are in the process of fighting this deadly disease).

Again this year we'll have the Beledi Dance Caravan

Marium Clark will again help Boulder Flycasters, entertaining us with her group of Belly Dancers. These dancers dazzled us last year with all their finery and finesse and you can count on another great performance. We're hoping to use their talents to keep the bidding lively and help us raise much needed funds for conservation efforts again this year! If you enjoy the performance, please let board member, Dave Clark know as his wife Marium, donated the troupe's performance again this year.

FREE DRINK COUPONS FROM JUANITA'S

ImageAs an added incentive, the first 70 people in the door will receive a free drink coupon from Juanita's Restaurant on Pearl Street. You can't beat that . . . Get In Free and Get a Free Drink Coupon, too!!!

The Verbal Auction
This Year's Verbal Auction has some amazing items starting off with a Leonard Bamboo Fly Rod Leonard 49, 3-piece, 2-tip, bamboo fly rod with original cloth rod sack and original metal rod tube (vintage 1970's). Used, but like new, mint condition. Valued at over $2,200.00! Donated by Rob Henneke!
How about a Wilderness Fishing Trip for two Anglers donated by Rusty Borgers...."Nestled deep in the beautiful Big Horn Mountains, Flatiron Lake sits like a precious gem surrounded by pristine wilderness. Access to the neighboring Cloud Peak Wilderness Area is allowed only on foot or horseback and as a result is lightly visited. This area has many spectacular lakes and streams that are hard to reach, but offers superb fishing for native trout as well as spectacular high mountain vistas and wildlife. Our camp at Flatiron Lake sits alone, the only outpost in this remote region.
Getting to the camp is part of the fun and is done on gentle mountain horses following easy trails past some of the Big Horn's best scenery. Our camp consists of comfortable wall tents with cots, mattresses and propane heaters for comfortable sleeping conditions. All of your meals are prepared by our staff cook and are taken either around a roaring campfire or in our spacious dining tent. As an added amenity we have a private bathroom tent and shower facilities.
We can provide easy mountain horseback rides, offer great local hikes to nearby streams and lakes or just enjoy a mountain meadow with fresh wildflowers blooming or elk roaming the forest edges. Flatiron Camp is one of the most beautiful locations around and we're sure that you'll agree the combination of solitude, wildlife and clean mountain air is the perfect antidote for civilization!" This trip was donated by Rusty Bogers, Flatiron TroutFitters of Buffalo, Wyoming . . . last summer a bunch of BFC'ers made the trip and had a super time!
At last count we had more than a dozen top notch, guided or escorted Fly Fishing Trips to auction off in the verbal auction and many fine Fly Rods, Reels and Collector grade fine art pieces . . . even an Avalanche Player, Karlis Skrastins, Signed Hockey Puck! We've got it all and what's even better . . . It's for a worthy cause . . . Money generated by our auction goes for conservation project right here at home and along the Front Range. The money received from this auction stays locally!

The Silent Auction

ImageWOW! Over 100 items will be included in the silent auction this year. Fly Fishing Gear by the tons, Reels, Rods, Fly Lines, Flies of every description and use, Fly Tying materials, overnight stays at some fine hotels here in Boulder, lots of fly fishing videos, fly fishing art of all kinds, Gift Certificates galore to some of the finest restaurants here in Boulder, Snow Board clothing from Section Brand for both men and women . . . We could go on and on!

We know that you'll be looking for bargains at the Auction, but this is our single fund raiser for the year. The proceeds from this auction 'fund' every project we undertake as a chapter. These projects include the quarterly clean-up of Boulder Creek, our flagship project in the upper Boulder Creek drainage and the work that we're doing in South Boulder Creek! We also sponsor one of our local youth with a scholarship to attend Colorado Trout Unlimited's Summer Youth Camp each summer. In addition to these worthy programs we help support CTU, our state level TU organization with their conservation projects and Reel Recovery (for Cancer Patients who are in the process of fighting this deadly disease).
