Special Meeting on January 10th!
Brian Capsay Presents "The Best of Southern Colorado Fishing"
Please join Brian as he takes you to some of his favorite
fly fishing waters in southwestern Colorado and northern
New Mexico. Waters like the Animas, the Dolores, the San
Miguel, Los Pinos and the San Juan Rivers. Some unbelievable
high mountain lakes fishing will also be covered in Brian's
list of must fish waters in and around Durango. His shop,
The Caddis Company, in downtown Durango, is a must stop
for the latest in hatches and local fly fishing information
on waters you'll be fishing.
In addition to running the shop, Brian is the US Fly Fishing
Team's "Team Leader" for the Finland competitions in 2007.
He is in charge of logistical operations, practices and
lodging for the Finland Worlds next year. He will also
be competing as a team member along with the four additional
team members. He'll be talking about his involvement with
this year's team and what the National Fly Fishing Championships
that are being held here in Boulder mean to the entire
US Team!

| "The
Color of Choice" by Adam Armold, Conservation Editor
There
is something missing this time of year. It’s not
that the festivities of the holidays are past us
and we feel deflated. And most of us have accepted
the fact that winter is here and that it will be
a while til the warm days of spring return. It’s
something more pervasive and somber. Things are so….so
gray! Adam has a unique perspective on this time
of year, click below to read all about it!

Why
Not Try "Alaska, For Some Great Fishing" by
Bill Marx, vagabond editor-at-large
The wheels touched
down lightly and the big plane gracefully settled onto
the tarmac at the Anchorage, Alaska airport runway. Awakened
from my musings, I glanced about the plane enquiringly.
All sorts of folks had taken this mid-August flight to
the land of the midnight sun. Mothers with crying babies
deplaned, anxiously looking for their husbands or other
family members to help share the bundled burden in their
arms. Elderly couples scanned the awaiting crowd for their
sons and daughters, who were presumably, piecing together
a meager living and a new adventurous life in the last
great frontier. My band of eager fishermen and I . . .

| "Disappointment
on the Habitat Stamp Grant Proposal for Middle
Boulder Creek!"
by
Paul Prentiss.
Considerable work and expense went into preparing a grant
request for our Rogers Park project on Middle Boulder
Creek. Initially we had receive strong signals that approval
was highly likely but over time those indications turned
sour as the DOW made a decision to funnel almost every
dollar raised by hunting, fishing, and state park fees
into game habitat. We knew it was an uphill battle but
we thought there would be an equitable distribution.
A definite setback, but the Project Team lead by Roger
Svendsen will not be deterred and is actively soliciting
funds from other sources.
If you would like to read more about the DOW decision,
see below (you won’t find anything in the press - I wonder
why?). To read CTU's "Steve Craig" article in the December

| "What
Is The Worth" of a Quality River?
by
Paul Prentiss.
Here's a study by the Montana’s FWP on the value of the
Bighorn River to the local economy….would you believe
that it brought in some $25 million dollars in 2005?
So much for the thought that fishery improvement is nice
but not essential. Please read the study and see for
yourself what a good fishery can do for a state's economy!!
Quite amazing!!

| "Colorado
Water Quality Control Commission to Adopt Standards"
by Bob Bush
Ever wonder what is happening to the fish and wildlife
which inhabit our streams and lakes when the water temperature
gets unusually high! Fish and animals die! Let's not
let this happen again!!!
That's right . . . The Colorado Water Quality Control
Commission will be adopting temperature standards for
the protection of fish in our streams and lakes very
soon and we need our voices heard.
Comments addressing your in-the-stream experience are
needed!!!
Please e-mail or write the commission or attend a hearing
- January 8th!
How we can help the fish in our streams and lakes? Click
below to read what we can do to make the standards we
already have in place "have more teeth" and what new
laws we'll need for upgrading the water temperatures
throughout the state.

Christmas Streamer - Recipe
Hook: Mustad R74 4xlong, size 8
Thread: Red-Orange 6/0

Wing: White Saddle Hackle
Head: Large Silver Bead
Tying Instructions:
Step 1: Mount bead on hook.

of hook.
Step 3: Tie in Marabou, (hook length long).
Step 4: Tie in 4 strands of flash on each side of tail.

Suggestions on how to fish:
