April 5th General Meeting —
"Peacock Bass in Brazil, Presented by L.A. Garcia
Here’s your chance to learn all
about the Peacock Bass of Brazil. L.A. Garcia is a local
author and adventure writer who will take us to the wild's
of Brazil and fish for the elusive Peacock Bass. It’s an
adventure sure to make you want to make a trip down there!
Don’t miss it!
Also, Our Clinic starting at 6:00 pm:
Last December we were going to have a short program from
Ken regarding significant additional trans-basin diversion
projects that are on the horizon for the Colorado River
Headwaters. The Windy Gap Firming and Moffat Tunnel
Expansion projects could have significant impacts on
the upper Colorado and Fraser Rivers, as well as streams
on the Front Range such as South Boulder Creek. Ken will
finally be able to fill us in on this potential problem.

| We’re Moving Into a
New Era for BFC in the Electronic Age! by Bob
Bush, BFC Vice President & Editor
Well, “Here goes”! Yes, we’re embarking on a new
chapter at Boulder Flycasters. doing an all electronic
version of Reel News. We have never before attempted to
eliminate a paper version of our monthly contact with
members “at large” by way of an e-mail format. As you will
see, beginning with this April, 2006 version, we’ll be able to
have as many pictures and stories, as long as we want, to
give you every detail (maybe more than necessary) to
inform and deliver!

Save The Date, BFC 2006 Trips by Al Permut (BFC Board Member)
BFC Schedules Fishing Trips
While we are locked in the grips of warm and windy
winter months, it's time to start planning fishing outings
for the BFC members, guests and anyone interested in
joining a bunch of half crazy fishing nuts. I've received
some feedback that more people would participate if we
gave better advanced notice for our trips, and if the
trips were simple 1 day affairs close to home. I would
like to encourage folks of all skill levels to join us. To
read more about the trips available, click below for all
the details.

| Flies that Bite Us!
by Doug Laiho (at Large Contributor to Reel
News)
Editorial Note: As many of you know, Doug Laiho often
has nothing better to do than research obscure and “far
out” subjects to write about. This article was,I thought, one
of those! But the truth is, it’s just what I was looking
for to help me get throught the summer “biteless”
(well, maybe not completely biteless, but this information
will help non the less!) We pay most attention to the
flies we use to attract fish, but what about the flies that
are attracted to us? They can make a fishing trip
miserable and cause it to end prematurely. What are the
primary flying, biting insects we find around water and what
can we do about them? There are other pests out there, but
I will be limiting my discussion to mosquitoes, black flies,
no-see-ums, horse files and deer flies. For just these
five insects there are many species, which makes it
difficult to generalize. I will describe mosquitoes first as
they are the most abundant and familiar to most of us and
have characteristics similar to many of the other flying,
biting insects.

| FISHING FOOD by Rob Zwolfer (At large contributor to Reel
News)
Prior to setting out on any fishing trip, my gear
inventory and preparation are integral parts of my
routine. Regardless of whether it is a quick trip up the
canyon to fish the creek or a journey through the
mountains to the Colorado, this is a step I always take.
In my earlier years, this round up of gear consisted
of a five word motto: “rods, reels, boots, waders, vest…”
If I had all five of these, it meant I was in business and
ready to begin my adventure. In recent years, my five word
motto has turned into six; food has become the integral final
ingredient to this quick chant.

| BOOK REVIEW
(actually a CD) "TROUT on STATE LANDS"
Here’s a typical BFC’er poaching on private land. If
he’d been smart, he’d have purchased the CD and not made
the mistake that might have cost him an arm and a leg!
Just kidding, the real truth is, he hooked the fish just
at the upstream bend of private water he cast into, while
standing in the public section. He knew this from the CD
he reviewed on his laptop moments before, while sitting in
his vehicle overlooking the stream!
Actually, When
Karen Christopherson and Al Marlowe team up to publish a new
book on Colorado fishing, those in the fishing community
who are literate tend to pay close attention. For very
good reason; their’s is the best resource material since
Sterling and Fothergill. This latest is their fifth
volume, the fourth published on CD and, by all odds, their
best and most complete. Maps, full description of the
sites, facilities, and directions to each of the 150-plus
public lands owned, leased, or managed by the State of
Colorado. Reviewed by Harry Ledyard (CTU at Large member)

OUR ANNUAL AUCTION WAS A SPLENDID
SUCCESS by Rog Svendsen This year auction was one of our best
yet. Although the value of the items didn’t reach last year’s
of $34,000.00, the net results by all indications exceeded
that of last year! Our 2006 auction was another great
success due to the leadership and support of a very large
number of people. By all accounts, attendees enjoyed
themselves immensely. For those that did not attend, you
missed a wonderful performance of four belly dancers and the
antics of one particular BFC member (you can probably
guess who that might have been!!) This was a bonus over and
above the wide range of merchandise, trips, and gift
certificates that were available. And our cowboy Auctioneers,
the DeNooy Brothers, were great as always! click

| West Denver Chapter
of TU Offers Mud Snail Information
The correct products for killing New Zealand Mud Snails
are not widely distributed. That is one of the things
hindering fisherman from cleansing their waders to prevent
spreading New Zealand Mud Snails to other river systems.
To help I am trying to collect sources for the products for
the whole state and put them on our website. Could you see
if you can locate some volunteers to call around in your areas
and locate sources. Then email me (go to detail) the
information which I will then put our website - WebGuy
