In April we began our spring semester
Outdoor Ed. Class at Fairview H.S. Students
participated in a field trip April 18th to South Boulder Creek where they
learned how to
collect invertebrate samples and conduct bio-assessment studies. This field
trip has
become a regular Outdoor Ed bicycle excursion getting the students out of
the classroom
and into the stream.
The spring semester program wrapped up May 15th with
a fishing and Barbeque evening
at Viele Lake near the South Boulder Recreation Center. Students received
angling and
casting tips in between burgers and tree catching. Every student caught Blue
Gills and
Crappie with an occasion large mouth bass being landed. Some of the participants
from
the Youth Restoration project held earlier in the day joined the fishing
fun as well. At
least 5 teenagers and younger kids experienced landing their 1st fish! Please
view the
picture gallery for bright fishing smiles.
