Preliminary Note: This meeting was originally scheduled as the BFC September Board meeting on September 26, 2007. It was rescheduled to October 17, 2007 due the fact that a majority of BFC Board members are also National Fly Fishing Championship steering committee members who were busy preparing for this event held during the first week of October.
I. Fairview High School IB Program Environmental Studies Day
Paul Prentiss has been contacted by Larry Quilling for the purpose of determining if BFC might have an interest in volunteering helpers for this event. However, Larry provided few details about how BFC might participate. Our tentative understanding is that this event will include 140+ Fairview High School students on Thursday, November 1 and Friday, November 2, 2007. A multi-faceted program is to be developed by various individuals to include Curry Rosato, Don Damico, John Roach, Jim Shelly, etc. Paul Prentiss will contact Larry Quilling in order to obtain more specific information related to BFC's participation.
II. BFC Annual Auction
John Frontczak, the BFC auction chairperson for the past few years is stepping down and will no longer be available to chair this event. Paul Prentiss suggests that the BFC fund raising annual auction may change shape to an entirely different fund raising format this year. Paul has talked with Al Manzy, publisher of the Boulder Daily Camera. The Camera has agreed to do a special supplement about Middle Boulder Creek that promotes the creek's spectrum of recreational activity availability. This would incorporate BFC's conservation and user interests pertinent to Middle Boulder Creek and also highlight our Roger's Park reclamation project. This Camera feature could take the shape of several articles or could be a single informational insert. This Camera project could also be tied into a 29th Street Mall project for fund raising around the idea of a fly fishing expo day. A group of volunteers needs to be determined to start on this project NOW in order to maximize its success. Paul indicates that the aforementioned arrangement with the Camera is already in place. The next step is to initiate the discussion with the 29th Street Mall management with relation to creating an arrangement for some type of fund raising event like a fly fishing expo day. Some initial brainstorming was undertaken with relation to attempting to identify other potential functions that could replace the auction as fundraising events. Volunteers who will be members of the newly created BFC Fundraising Team are Chad Pettrone, Allen Nakagawa, Mark Riley, and Dave Clark. Paul will call Laurie Giegy at the 29th Street Mall to set up an appointment for this group to meet with her to initiate a dialogue to explore a fund raising collaboration project.
Mark Riley will contact Wells Fargo to establish the mechanism necessary to create an online monetary donation feature whereby direct donations can be made to BFC through the BFC website. Paul will talk to Roger Svendsen, Roger's Park Project chairperson about setting a launch date for the online monetary donation availability. Tony Fernandez, BFC website manager, will then modify the website to allow this function.
III. BFC Chapter Elections
BFC Board officer positions that will be open and will need to be filled by new people will be chapter president, vice-president, and secretary. Mark Riley has indicated his willingness to remain another term as treasurer. A number of additional non-officer Board positions will also become vacant at the end of this term and will also need to be filled. Typically the November chapter meeting is the time that nominations are recognized for these open positions. Chad Pettrone has stepped forward to offer his name as a candidate for president. Allen Nakagawa has listed himself as a candidate for secretary. Bob Bush will continue in charge of newsletter production. Terry Escamilla will take charge of chapter programs.
IV. Other Topics
