Meeting minutes 4/26/2006 - April Board Meeting

In attendance: Bob Bush, Paul Prentiss, Mike Malec, Dave Clark, Adam Armold, Matt Costello, Bill Leuchten & Brian Ross.

Meeting was called to order.

Minutes of the last meeting’s minutes were approved.

CU Flyfishing Club: This was Matt Costello's last meeting. The board would like to thank him for all of his efforts and wish him well in his new life after college. He was a great CU FF Club rep. We would also like to welcome Brian Ross as the new CU FF Club rep.

Reminders on Youth Restoration Day & Boulder Creek Cleanup.

TU Certified Guide Program: An attempt to get the guiding and shop community more involved with TU chapters. Guides will get benefits through TU that will be unavailable to the general public. TU will set up a certification process to get guides certified.

St. Vrain Chapter assessment on the St. Vrain River: Great source of ideas and framework for our work on MBC Roger’s Park.

June picnic: All set up. Will be at Elk’s Park in Boulder. Bob will investigate food for the picnic. Bob will decide on sandwiches, KT’s BBQ, Qdoba burrito bar, etc.

E-Newsletter: Some formatting issues being experienced by some members. We will continue to pursue advertising sources to offset the cost of the e-newsletter delivery.

Roger’s Park Project: First meeting was a success and progress was made. Two stream restoration experts have volunteered their time towards the project.

Gunnison Angling Society: Chapter is struggling due to lack of fresh blood from the chapter at large. We need to investigate ways to prevent this from happening to us. Board members need to more actively identify members who would be willing to participate and more actively bring them into positions within the chapter.

Programs: Bob is really the only one working on programs and we need to identify additional members who are willing to help fill an assistant programs position.

Conservation Advocate: Chapter needs a conservation advocate. Someone who will keep conservation issues at the forefront of all chapter activities, newsletter, programs, articles, etc. “Takings” bill coming up is scary and needs to be vigorously fought. Regarding the Conservation Advocate position: Paul asked Adam Armold to Chair that position and Adam accepted, a positive vote followed. CTU & TU need to better activate the grassroots actions of our members. Our chapter needs to at the least notify our members of all these issues and ways in which to get our voices heard.

CTU Website: New website with many resources is coming. “Water law for the layman” will be one of the resources.

Fundraising: We need a fundraising advocate who will investigate, plan for and implement new fundraising venues to prevent a total loss of funds if the auction was ever snowed out. As an example, Chapter could sponsor and put together a Boulder County fishing map/guide in partnership with local shops.

MBC: Bob is looking for City contact to address the water main leak alluvial fan in Roger’s Park. The leak fan will need to be mitigated prior to any work occurring on Roger’s Park project or our work will just be silted in. Some thought will also have to be given to prevention of future water main problems from occurring and impacting stream improvements.

Library Display: Installation date is approaching and all parties involved are coordinating lists of gear to be displayed.

Website Calendar: Events need to be put into the calendar with more lead time so that busier people can set aside time. At all board meetings, we need to communicate to Tony future scheduled events.

Meeting was adjourned.
