Committee Reports:

Programs

June Picnic – Starts at 6:30 PM @ Elks Club

Awards – Bob is finalizing / ordering plaques today. Planning is underway to assure award recipients are present with only a few exceptions.

Food/Drink – Larry is handling food and drinks with family support.

Casting/Rod Demo – Will request demo rods from local shops. Rog will get the hula hoops from the storage shed.

Auction Follow-up – There is still a problem relative to the Elkhorn bamboo rod which was a counterfit. Mike H. will continue to work on getting things straightened out. The final resolution plan was not defined, but will probably result in the bidder getting a refund.

Treasurer – Larry – Larry submitted status to Bob for the Newsletter, but it was not included due to space limitations. Discussion of other fund raising trips, hosted by BFC members. Holiday greeting cards was another idea – Al P. will investigate, however that would be the next fiscal year. Gary Ashley might be a source for some watercolor art.

22- Club proceeds remain at about $2000, which is about $1,000 short of plan.

Dirk will donate one day at Pactolius – August – early – 1st Saturday - $25 for beginners w/ coaching by BFC members – includes lunch. Dirk will write it up. Limited to 20 people. We will need five BFC members to help.

Projects – Need to plan a date for Roger’s Park. Storm sewer activity is slated for June 10 … need more volunteers. Need e-mail blast. City wants a very organized approach, not just random, help. That makes it difficult for BFC members to pick up materials and work a few hours at a time as they have time available.

Volunteeroutdoorscolorado (VOC.org) web site – We have not had any success getting volunteers.

Mike visited Cline’s Hatchery to get a feel for how the cleanup looks. Cline’s has made significant improvements, but something as minor as a travelling raccoon could re-infect it. Adequacy will need to be watched. There are a large number of fishermaen on that stretch of the creek. Mike talked to Sharon Lance re: mudsnail problem. Sharon referred him to TU magazine article, which suggests a wait and see approach. It is suspected that the problem is widespread but not yet discovered. Sharon will take the situation to the CTU board. After a brief discussion, the consensus was that a wait and see approach will result in a widespread infection.

Projects

Dirk – CDOT Conversation – A large pile of material was removed near Roger’s park and looks very nice.

Gilpin County Commissioners conversation – Area around Rollinsville. Some property was available for lease at little or no cost. The land was ultimately donated to Gilpin County. Materials are needed. Dirk will continue to follow-up, but requested help with CDOT negotiations. We will also need Army Corp of Engineers assistance as well. Lloyd suggested this be brought to a project meeting.

Larry – 3 teachers showed up for his training. Their classes may be available for volunteer work. They are middle school age kids, which may limit the number of appropriate projects.

St. Vrain Chapter auction – Mike M. attended. Space was beautiful. Auction items were very poor. The format was similar to the BFC auction. Mike did not stay to see the results.

Newsletter – No activity other than the usual. Bob needs help with the mailing. Dave C. will take over the job. Hooray and many thanks to Dave.

Membership – No activity

Education – Larry was out with many scouts; 35 in Coal Creek. Short attention spans! The Newsletter contains much of the details. Shawn did Boulder Co. Partners work last week.

Plan to do project this summer, Shawn and Larry will do the outside work – Manual High. Hope is to have an ongoing program.

South Bldr. Creek. Larry needs to contact Dist DOW Mgr. For a walkthru w/ DOW. Carol Ellinghouse coordination has been delayed, but will pick up in the next week or so.

Old Business:

Boulder Fish And Game – Paul – no activity

Letter to the City – No response yet.

New Business:

Meeting Locations – The BOD meeting in June will be at “Lloyd’s Lake”. The July meeting will be held at Dirk’s place in July. We will need to get some work done too, but there are some definite advantages to being on the BFC Board of Directors!

Summer Club Trip – Nothing planned yet.

Bob – Report on US Fly Fishing Team Trials – Bob Bush and Paul attended the US Fly Fishing Team trials in Bend Oregon in mid-May. The team coach is Jack Dennis. There were 22 contestants. The world championship for 2005 is in Lapland, Sweden fishing for grayling. Colorado could host the final trials next year. The finals will be in Portugal, which has rivers and streams similar to those found on the Front Range. Bob and Paul have been asked to assist be leading the overall coordination of the trials if Colorado is chosen as the site. Two FFF chapters coordinated the trials in Bend, OR. There was not enough promotion. The final team consists of five team members and one alternate. There are 15 team members in total. One person is a fly tier. There are currently 23 national teams. Team members are personally asked; one cannot apply. They don’t take volunteers. About 30 people are necessary to support the trials.

The key questions is:

Does BFC want to help? An answer is not needed immediately. No finances are required. A volunteer is needed to head up the entire state effort. Mike Hickey is willing to lead the effort. A committee of Mike H., Lloyd, and Dave was formed to proceed.

There are several new folks interested in becoming board members. One very qualified person is Randy Ridinger. We need a replacement for Bob Bush who had to resign due to health problems of his wife, Susan. The board is very sorry that Bob had to resign. He will be missed. We wish Susan the very best.

Adjourned about 7:40 PM
