Committee Reports:
Programs –
Projects –
- Dirk met with representatives from Gilpin County again and continued discussions regarding future plans. Details need to be addressed in a Project Committee meeting. Stay tuned.
- Mike M. led a scouting party to Roger’s Park to do some preliminary planning. There look to be three distinct beats that need attention, hence probably a three year project. There was some discussion about how soon we should get “officials” involved with some strong opinion thinking sooner would be better than later.
- The project to help Boulder City tag storm sewers took place on 6/4, however only 40 tags were available, so the 5 BFC members (mostly Board Members) that showed up to help was not a problem. The effort was completed in 40 minutes. We need better cooperation from the city… as well as more volunteers.
- Mike will begin preliminary planning for the Sept. state stream clean-up
- Mike M. would like to investigate opening Boulder Creek below Barker Reservoir. It is not understood how one gains access, so Al Permut will do some recon., hopefully without being imprisoned.
- Treasurer – Larry was not present, therefore status was moved to the July meeting. Dirk did say a new poster was coming to advertise the Pactolus Fund Raising Fishing Day.
- Newsletter – Dave successfully addressed the newsletters this past month. All bulk mail is now being routed thru Denver instead of the Boulder mail being pulled out locally. The Newsletter deadline was therefore moved from the 10th of each month to the 8th. July and August will be short newsletters, as previously planned.
- Membership – We continue to lose members each month, however we also routinely gain members, with the net result of a slowly growing membership which is approaching 900. Though maintaining the email list continues to be a challenge, we do have over 300 valid addresses.
- Merchandise – We need to order more hats. Specific action and who would be responsible was not defined.
- July Meeting – Everything is in place for “Fishing for Bass after Midnight".
Old Business:
- New Zealand Mud Snails – There was significant conversation regarding concern over the low interest on the part of DOW and CTU to contain this problem. It is not clear how active BFC should be. There is no evidence that invasions in Idaho and Montana have been very devastating, at least to date. It is also not clear how much science exists supporting concerns. Dirk and Bob will look for a CSU contact and Dave Nickum from CTU will be contacted by Lloyd. The target date for these actions to be completed is 7/6.
- US Fly Fishing Team Trials – A letter was sent to Jack Dennis by Paul defining the ground rules and conditions that were required in order to obtain Colorado support for the event next year. Bob and Paul hope to get a response by mid-July. No meetings on this subject will be held until we receive a reply. The dates are thought to be 5/22 thru 5/26. The previous weekend is the CO free fishing weekend, so an effort to extend the time as a promotion for the team trials was suggested.
- BOD Meeting Location for July – The July BOD meeting will be held at Dirk’s Pactolus Fly Fishing Club as planned last month.
New Business:
- Boulder Kid’s Fishing Contest – The PETA organization demonstrated at the event this year and confronted several parents and scared several of the kids. This violates state law. The BFC decision was to ask DOW to support the contest and maintain order by being present next year. Nobody was explicitly assigned.
- Misc. – It was noted by Mike H. that the Flatirons Fishing Company is closing. The store location and the need to support three owners were cited as contributing factors. We hate to see them go and wish the owners success in the future.
- Thanks! Thanks to Lloyd for hosting our meeting. A number of fish were landed. A number of fish were teased ….. and …. A number of Fishermen were teased!
The meeting was adjourned at 9:01.
Respectfully submitted:
Roger Svendsen, Secretary, BFC BOD
